Especially when it’s someone you love

You were given a choice. Your family or your work. I thought that maybe, just maybe, you’d make the right one. That after all these years, you wouldn’t pick work. At least once, you’d pick your family. But no. You picked work again.

I gave you a chance, dad. You were in town for a week and you wanted to hang out. Against my better judgment, I decided to give you a chance. So we had lunch twice. We talked, you confided in me some stuff that’s been going on in your life and I really appreciated it. But then you leave and you ignore me. This is why I was so hesitant to go in the first place. Work always comes first. Whether you realize it or not, work will always come first. Before your friends, before your family. And then you wonder why your kids are so distant with you. Whatever. I give up.
